Island: Screen Time

Privacy Policy

Who we are

Island is an app made by SideKit, Inc., 6th Floor, 136 Madison Ave, New York, New York. Where this policy says we, it means that company. This policy covers the app and this website.

Short version

Island: Screen Time does not sell your data. The data we collect is to provide the service and give us insights on how to prioritize development.

What we hold when you sign in

Once you have an account, our servers store:

If you build your farmer from a photo, the app sends that photo to our API and on to the image provider named below, only so a portrait can be suggested. We do not store it and do not keep it after the request finishes. The provider's own retention and safety review policies apply to the request while it is with them.

Analytics

We keep aggregate operational counts, such as the fact that the app was launched or opened. These are not tied to an account or to a persistent device identifier.

The rest runs through PostHog, our product analytics provider: which features people reach, where they stop, whether the app is working, ordinary device facts such as your model and operating system version, and a recording of app sessions. PostHog stores and reads an analytics identifier on your device. If your device is set to a UK or EEA region, PostHog stays off until you consent, and you can turn it off again at any time from the app's Settings.

When you are signed in, analytics are recorded against your account. When you are signed out, they are recorded against a random id.

Who else touches it

Every provider below works to our instructions and holds only what its job needs. The purposes are the commitment; the names are who we use today.

Purpose Who
Running the API and serving this website Cloudflare
Storage Neon
Product analytics and session recordings PostHog
SMS Twilio
Artificial Intelligence OpenAI
Delivering notifications Apple and Google

We also use ordinary business tools, such as email and team messaging, in which your handle may appear incidentally.

How long we keep it

Session data, including recordings, is kept for a limited period, currently 30 days. Other usage data, such as app opens, may be stored indefinitely. Turning analytics off stops future collection; deleting your account or resetting your island, below, erases what was collected before.

Deleting your data

Deleting your account in the app erases everything above: your account, your daily totals, your island backups, your friendships, and your analytics. Deleting your data has the steps.

Your handle may remain in internal team records, such as messages between us about waitlist and account activity.

If you have never signed in, resetting your island in the app will still delete any analytics collected from that device.

Why we are allowed to hold it

If you are in the UK or the EEA, the law asks us to name a reason for each use, so:

We are a US company and the database holding your account is in the US, so data about you leaves the UK and the EEA to reach us. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses the law provides for exactly that.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, export it, or have it erased, and to object to how we use it. The app's own deletion tools cover erasure. For anything else, write to us and we will answer within the time the law where you live allows.

If you live in California: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never have. You may also ask what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, and we will not treat you any differently for asking.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will erase it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
